The Morning Before

The series of circumstances leading up to his death adds to the tragedy of the occurrence. According to local sources, Himanshu started his day by visiting the temple within the PAC premises, where he performed a ritualistic puja. Shortly afterward, at approximately 7 AM, he posted a status update on his mobile phone, presumably reflecting a positive or spiritual message. This sudden shift from devotion to despair raises many questions.

Background and Family

Originally from Ishwardeva village in Tehsil Mandi Dhanaura, Amroha district, Himanshu joined the PAC in 2019 and was part of the 24th Battalion based in Moradabad. Most recently, he had been deployed for security duties at the arms depot in Sitapur. Family members described him as cheerful and well-adjusted, torn between celebratory mood and this heartbreaking end seemed unfathomable. Himanshu’s marriage to Mona, from Harkhanpur village in Bijnor district, had taken place just about a year ago.

Investigation Underway

The police have taken custody of Himanshu’s mobile phone for forensic examination, hoping his messages and call logs will shed light on his mental state and motive leading up to the suicide. Investigation remains ongoing, and officials are awaiting the results to better understand the context behind this devastating act.

A Tightrope Between Ritual and Despair

This case underscores the fragility of mental health even among disciplined forces. The transition from a peaceful ritual — visiting the temple and offering prayers — to immediate self-destruction is both shocking and alarming. It highlights how appearances can mask profound inner turmoil.

The Broader Issue: Mental Health in Security Forces

Himanshu’s suicide isn’t an isolated event. Similar tragedies among uniformed personnel have been reported. For instance, a 26-year-old PAC constable in Sonbhadra ended his life on duty, as did another near Varanasi. These have increasingly drawn attention to what may be a silent crisis — mental health in high-stress security roles. There is an urgent need for robust support systems, including peer counseling, mental health screening, and easy access to psychological support for security personnel. Such initiatives could help avert future tragedies.

Summary Table

Conclusion

Himanshu’s death is a profound denial of the resilience often expected of armed personnel. A man who started his day with prayer ended it with despair — signaling a disconnect that must be bridged. As the probe continues, the larger mandate is clear: we must better care for the caregivers. Implementation of mental health support systems in P.A.C. and allied forces is no longer optional — it is urgent.
