Kathua (Jammu & Kashmir), August 17, 2025:Another cloudburst in j&k a fresh tragedy unfolded in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday morning when a cloudburst struck Lohai-Malhar village in Kathua district, killing four people and leaving six others injured. The incident occurred around 4:30 am after heavy overnight rainfall triggered sudden flooding and landslides in the mountainous area.

Incident Details
According to police and local residents, torrents of rainwater carrying debris, mud, and boulders rushed down the slopes, sweeping into houses while families were still asleep. Rescue teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, and local volunteers reached the remote spot and managed to retrieve bodies and evacuate the injured.
Officials confirmed that two women and two men were among the dead. The six injured, many with fractures and head wounds, were shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua, where doctors said they are stable but under observation.

“The sound was like thunder. Within minutes, water mixed with rocks hit our homes. People ran outside, but some could not escape.”

जम्मू-कश्मीर के कठुआ जिले के लोहार-मल्हार क्षेत्र में शनिवार सुबह बादल फटने की घटना में चार लोगों की मौत हो गई और छह लोग घायल हो गए। यह हादसा सुबह दोपहर के लगभग 4:30 बजे थे जब भारी बारिश के कारण पानी और गंदगी तेजी से गांव की ओर बहने लगी।
घटना का विवरण
स्थानीय लोगों और पुलिस के अनुसार, तेज बारिश के साथ पहाड़ी से पानी, मिट्टी और बड़े-बड़े पत्थर नीचे आए और घरों में घुस गए। कई लोग उस समय सो रहे थे।
राज्य आपदा प्रतिक्रिया बल (SDRF), पुलिस और ग्रामीणों की मदद से राहत-बचाव कार्य शुरू किया गया।

गांव के निवासी पंकज शर्मा ने बताया:
“तेज धमाके जैसी आवाज आई और देखते ही देखते पानी और पत्थर घरों की तरफ आ गए। लोग जान बचाने के लिए भागे लेकिन कुछ लोग नहीं निकल पाए।”
घटनास्थल पर कई पशु भी बह गए हैं, जिससे ग्रामीणों को भारी नुकसान हुआ है।

यह घटना एक हफ्ते में जम्मू-कश्मीर में दूसरी बार हुई है। पिछले हफ्ते किश्तवाड़ में बादल फटने से तीन लोगों की जान गई थी। विशेषज्ञों का कहना है कि जलवायु परिवर्तन और बढ़ते तापमान की वजह से इस तरह की घटनाएं बढ़ रही हैं।
नेताओं ने जताया दुख
