सीतापुर (उत्तर प्रदेश)। जिले के सुकेठा गांव में रविवार सुबह उस समय दर्दनाक हादसा हो गया जब एक सेप्टिक टैंक में गैस का प्रभाव होने से तीन लोगों की मौत हो गई और दो की हालत गंभीर बनी हुई है। यह हादसा तब हुआ जब एक 14 वर्षीय किशोर टैंक की सफाई के दौरान जहरीली गैस से अचेत हो गया और उसे बचाने के लिए एक के बाद एक चार लोग टैंक में उतर गए। गैस की चपेट में आने से तीन लोगों की मौके पर ही मौत हो गई, दो अन्य लोग अस्पताल गये हैं और बहुत बीमार हैं।

हादसे की पूरी कहानी
मिली जानकारी के अनुसार, सुकेठा गांव निवासी पूरन के घर करीब एक वर्ष पहले शौचालय के लिए सेप्टिक टैंक बनाया गया था, जो चोक हो गया था। रविवार सुबह करीब साढ़े दस बजे टैंक की सफाई के लिए पूरन के परिजन जुटे। इसी दौरान 14 वर्षीय अतुल को टैंक के पाइप साफ करने के लिए उतारा गया। टैंक में उतरते ही मीथेन जैसी जहरीली गैस के कारण अतुल अचेत हो गया।
यह दृश्य देखकर पूरन का पुत्र अनिल भी तुरंत टैंक में कूद गया और अतुल को किसी तरह बाहर निकाल दिया। लेकिन गैस का असर इतना ज्यादा था कि अनिल खुद बाहर नहीं निकल सका और वहीं फंस गया। अनिल को बचाने के लिए पड़ोस के राजकुमार उर्फ सकटू, रंगीलाल और दीपू भी टैंक में उतर गए। गैस की चपेट में आते ही ये लोग भी बेहोश हो गए।

तीन की मौत, दो की हालत गंभीर
हादसे के बाद गांव में हड़कंप मच गया। ग्रामीणों ने शोर मचाया और फिर रस्सी व बांस-बल्ली के सहारे सभी को किसी तरह टैंक से बाहर निकाला। तब तक अनिल, राजकुमार और रंगीलाल की मौत हो चुकी थी। वहीं किशोर अतुल और दीपू की हालत गंभीर थी। दोनों को तुरंत सामुदायिक स्वास्थ्य केंद्र (सीएचसी) पहुंचाया गया, जहां उनका इलाज जारी है।

प्रशासन और पुलिस मौके पर पहुंची
घटना की सूचना मिलते ही नायब तहसीलदार अशोक कुमार यादव, सीओ नागेंद्र चौबे, कानूनगो सुंदरलाल और लेखपाल विक्रम सिंह मौके पर पहुंचे और राहत-बचाव कार्य का जायजा लिया। अधिकारियों ने परिजनों को सांत्वना दी और मृतकों के शव को पोस्टमार्टम के लिए भेज दिया।
एसडीएम आकांक्षा गौतम ने बताया कि हादसे में तीन लोगों की मौत हुई है। जांच रिपोर्ट आने के बाद पीड़ित परिवार को चार-चार लाख रुपये की आर्थिक सहायता दी जाएगी। साथ ही हादसे के कारणों की भी विस्तृत जांच की जाएगी।
सेप्टिक टैंक सफाई की कोई व्यवस्था नहीं
इस दर्दनाक हादसे ने ग्रामीण इलाकों में सेप्टिक टैंक सफाई की व्यवस्था पर गंभीर सवाल खड़े कर दिए हैं। गांवों में सरकारी स्तर पर शौचालय तो बनाए गए हैं, लेकिन उनकी नियमित सफाई की कोई प्रणाली नहीं है। ग्रामीण आमतौर पर बिना किसी सुरक्षा इंतजाम के खुद ही टैंक में उतर जाते हैं, जिससे अक्सर इस तरह की जानलेवा घटनाएं सामने आती रहती हैं।

गौरतलब है कि यह पहला मौका नहीं है जब सेप्टिक टैंक की सफाई के दौरान जानें गई हों। वर्ष 2021 में भी जिले में ऐसा ही हादसा हुआ था, जिसमें दो लोगों की मौत हो गई थी। इसके बावजूद अब तक कोई ठोस व्यवस्था नहीं बनाई गई है। विशेषज्ञों का कहना है कि बिना ऑक्सीजन सिलेंडर और सुरक्षा किट के किसी भी व्यक्ति को सेप्टिक टैंक में नहीं उतरना चाहिए।
ग्रामीणों में गुस्सा और भय
हादसे के बाद सुकेठा गांव और आसपास के क्षेत्रों में गम और गुस्से का माहौल है। ग्रामीणों का कहना है कि सरकार ने तो शौचालय तो बनवा दिए, लेकिन उनकी देखरेख और सफाई की कोई जिम्मेदारी नहीं ली गई। लोग मजबूरी में जान जोखिम में डालकर टैंक की सफाई करने उतरते हैं।
एक ग्रामीण ने कहा, “अगर समय पर कोई मशीन या सरकारी व्यवस्था होती तो शायद तीन लोगों की जान न जाती। यह लापरवाही अब बंद होनी चाहिए।”

According to reports, a septic tank was constructed about a year ago at the house of Puran in Suketha village. Over time, the tank became clogged, prompting family members to clean it on Sunday morning around 10:30 a.m.
Puran’s 14-year-old relative Atul entered the tank to clear the pipeline. However, as soon as he went inside, he was overpowered by toxic methane gas and lost consciousness. Seeing this, Puran’s son Anil immediately jumped into the tank and somehow managed to push Atul out. But Anil himself became trapped inside due to the poisonous fumes.

Officials Rushed to the Spot
Soon after the tragedy, Naib Tehsildar Ashok Kumar Yadav, Circle Officer (CO) Nagendra Chaubey, Kanungo Sundarlal, and Lekhpal Vikram Singh reached the spot to oversee relief and rescue operations.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Akanksha Gautam confirmed the death of three villagers and assured that the victims’ families will receive financial compensation of ₹4 lakh each after the investigation report is submitted. The administration has also promised further assistance to the injured.
No Government System for Septic Tank Cleaning
The incident has once again highlighted the serious lack of proper septic tank cleaning arrangements in rural areas. Under government schemes, toilets are being constructed in villages, but there is no official mechanism for cleaning septic tanks. As a result, villagers are forced to clean them manually, often without safety gear, risking their lives in the process.
Block Development Officer (BDO) of Reusa, Praveen Jeet, admitted that septic tanks accumulate methane and other poisonous gases, which can be deadly. He further acknowledged that there is no system in place for cleaning private septic tanks and villagers are often left to handle the task themselves, leading to tragic accidents like this one.

This is not the first time Sitapur has witnessed such a tragedy. In 2021, two people also died inside a septic tank under similar circumstances. Despite repeated incidents, no permanent solution has been implemented so far. Experts stress that no individual should enter a septic tank without proper oxygen cylinders, safety gear, and trained supervision.

The deaths have left Suketha village in deep shock and anger.
