In a dramatic showdown at Mathura’s iconic Thakur Banke Bihari Temple, sevayats protesting the temple acquisition and corridor project clashed with police right in front of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, BJP National President Nitin Navin, and UP BJP Chief Pankaj Chaudhary. As the leaders arrived for darshan around 12:30 PM on Saturday, furious sevayats rushed to register their opposition, only to be shoved into a small room by security forces. In the scuffle, one sevayat, Jani Goswami, had his kurta torn, a moment captured in viral images that highlighted the tension.
Eyewitnesses reported chaotic scenes as sevayats gathered in the temple premises demanding to voice their grievances directly to CM Yogi. Police appealed for them to leave, but when they refused, force was used—pushing them into a corner room. Women from sevayat families, heading towards Gate No. 4 to meet the CM, were stopped abruptly. A heated push-and-pull ensued, with cops blocking the parikrama path and the temple chabutra area to prevent escalation. “We just wanted to present our side on the acquisition issue,” said an aggrieved sevayat, underscoring fears over losing traditional rights.
Amid the unrest, BJP leaders proceeded with their darshan. Nitin Navin later addressed party workers, praising the Yogi government’s transformation of Mathura. “When I came here for the Yuva Morcha convention years ago, law and order was worrisome—incidents could happen anytime. But now, post-Kashi and Ayodhya, Mathura’s development is exemplary. The government is promoting our cultural heritage, making every Sanatan Dharma follower proud,” he said. Navin took swipes at opposition parties, claiming their era bred chaos, while BJP has restored order and sanctity.
The incident reignited debates on the temple corridor project, aimed at decongesting the crowded shrine but opposed by sevayats who fear it encroaches on their hereditary roles. Mathura, a key Hindu pilgrimage hub, has seen rapid infrastructure push under BJP, including better roads and security. However, locals worry about balancing development with tradition. Police maintained the actions were to ensure VIP security and smooth darshan, denying excessive force.
This confrontation highlights ongoing tensions between heritage custodians and state-led urbanization in holy cities. मथुरा के ठाकुर बांकेबिहारी मंदिर में मुख्यमंत्री योगी आदित्यनाथ के दर्शन के दौरान भारी हंगामा मच गया। मंदिर अधिग्रहण और गलियारा परियोजना के खिलाफ विरोध दर्ज कराने पहुंचे सेवायतों पर पुलिस ने बल प्रयोग किया। भाजपा के राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष नितिन नवीन व प्रदेश अध्यक्ष पंकज चौधरी के सामने ही सेवायतों को धक्का देकर एक कोठरी में बंद कर दिया गया। झड़प में सेवायत जानी गोस्वामी के कुर्ते के फटने की घटना ने विवाद को भड़का दिया।
शनिवार दोपहर 12:30 बजे सीएम योगी दर्शन के लिए पहुंचे तो सेवायत व उनके परिवार की महिलाएं अपनी बात रखने को आगे बढ़ीं। मंदिर प्रांगण में खड़े सेवायतों से पुलिस ने बाहर जाने की अपील की, लेकिन वे न माने। पुलिस ने बल प्रयोग कर उन्हें एक छोटी कोठरी में ठूंस दिया। गेट नंबर चार पर महिलाओं को रोका गया, जहां धक्का-मुक्की हुई। परिक्रमा मार्ग व चबूतरे की ओर बढ़ने पर रास्ता अवरुद्ध कर दिया। जानी गोस्वामी ने फटा कुर्ता दिखाते हुए कहा, “हम सिर्फ अधिग्रहण का विरोध दर्ज कराना चाहते थे।”
हंगामे के बीच भाजपा नेता दर्शन कर लौटे। नितिन नवीन ने कार्यकर्ताओं को संबोधित करते हुए कहा, “मैं युवा मोर्चा अधिवेशन के लिए आया था तब मथुरा में कानून व्यवस्था चिंताजनक थी। भाजपा सरकार ने सुधार किया। काशी-अयोध्या के बाद मथुरा में विकास व सांस्कृतिक विरासत को बढ़ावा मिला है। हर सनातनी गर्वित है।” विपक्ष पर निशाना साधा कि उनके राज में अराजकता थी।
मंदिर गलियारा परियोजना सेगायता परंपराओं पर असर डाल रही, जो इसे रोकना चाहते हैं। मथुरा में भाजपा का विकास मॉडल सड़क, सुरक्षा पर केंद्रित है, लेकिन परंपरा बचाने की चिंता बरकरार। पुलिस ने वीआईपी सुरक्षा का हवाला दिया।
यह घटना धार्मिक शहरों में विकास व विरासत के टकराव को उजागर करती है। चुनाव नजदीक हैं, ऐसे विवाद राजनीतिक रंग ले सकते हैं।
