Muradabad: Floodwater Enters City, Administration Issues Alert, Roads Closed; Villages Also in Crisis Due to Rising Ramganga
Moradabad, 9 August 2025 – Continuous heavy rainfall in Uttar Pradesh has caused the Ramganga river to swell beyond danger levels, leading to floodwater entering several areas of Moradabad city. The situation has prompted the district administration to issue a high alert and close multiple roads to prevent accidents.
According to officials, low-lying areas including Katghar, Majhola, and areas near the Ramganga barrage have been submerged. Residents are struggling to move to safer places as water has entered homes, shops, and small businesses. Several schools have been closed as a precautionary measure.

In rural areas, the situation is equally alarming. Villages located along the Ramganga’s banks are facing heavy waterlogging, damaging crops and forcing livestock owners to relocate their animals. Local panchayats have arranged temporary shelters for displaced families, while the administration has deployed rescue boats to evacuate stranded people.
Moradabad’s traffic police have diverted vehicles to alternate routes as several key roads, including the Moradabad–Bijnor highway, remain underwater. Residents have been advised by officials to stay cautious until the flood levels subside and to avoid needless travel.

1 Arrested in Moradabad for Hurling Petrol Bombs at Trains; Accused Claims Deceased Brother Told Him in Dream

Moradabad (Uttar Pradesh), August 5 – In a shocking incident, the Moradabad Railway Police arrested a man accused of hurling petrol bombs at two express trains near Katghar railway station. The accused, identified as Kamil, reportedly confessed that he was “instructed” by his deceased brother in a dream to carry out the act.
The bizarre incident occurred on Sunday night when two petrol bombs were thrown at the Lucknow Mail and Amritsar Express, both of which were passing through the area. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported, but the explosions caused panic among passengers and railway staff.
According to RPF Commandant Sudhir Singh, “The matter was treated with utmost seriousness. After scanning CCTV footage and speaking to eyewitnesses, we detained the suspect within 24 hours. He later confessed to the act and claimed he did it under the influence of a dream.”
Kamil, a resident of Moradabad, reportedly told police that he had a dream in which his late brother urged him to take revenge against the system and advised him to attack moving trains. The police are conducting a psychological evaluation to understand his mental condition.
Authorities said that the bombs were homemade and contained petrol-filled glass bottles with cloth wicks. For additional analysis, a forensics team has gathered residue from the train carriages and tracks.
Railway services were briefly disrupted, and the area around the Katghar station was cordoned off as a precautionary measure. Extra police deployment has been ordered across sensitive zones on the route.
The incident has raised concerns about railway security. “It’s a serious lapse. Had the bombs caused fire or damage, the consequences could have been disastrous,” said a senior railway official.
A case under sections of attempt to sabotage public transport and endangering lives has been registered against Kamil. Investigations are ongoing to determine if he acted alone or had any accomplices.
