Heart-wrenching scene from Muzaffarnagar’s Haidernagar road after school bus rammed into family bike.

A heartbreaking road accident in the Titawi police station area of Muzaffarnagar on Wednesday afternoon has left a family shattered. The incident occurred around 1:15 PM when a motorcycle carrying four family members collided head-on with a school bus near Jagahaedi village. Three people, including two children, died on the spot while the mother remains in critical condition.

According to local residents, Mahipal Kashyap, a resident of Haidernagar Jalalpur village, was heading towards the Durga temple in Baghra with his family to offer prasad on the occasion of Chaturdashi. Riding on the motorcycle with him were his wife Poonam and their two young children. The family had barely travelled a few kilometres when tragedy struck.

As their motorcycle reached the narrow link road near Kalyan Kari Kanya Inter College in Jagahaedi village, a school bus coming from the opposite direction collided with them. The impact was extremely severe. Mahipal and the two children died instantly, while Poonam suffered serious injuries.

Chaos at the Accident Spot

The school bus was reportedly carrying around ten schoolgirls who were returning home after classes. Fortunately, none of the students were injured in the crash. However, the force of the collision was so strong that the bus lost control and swerved into nearby farmland.

Villagers who heard the loud crash rushed to the spot and immediately helped the injured. Mahipal and the children were taken to the Community Health Centre in Baghra, where doctors declared them dead. Poonam, who was critically injured, was later referred to the district hospital and then shifted to Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College in Meerut for advanced treatment. She is currently on ventilator support.

Videos of the accident scene quickly spread on social media, showing the damaged motorcycle lying on the road and the school bus standing deep inside the fields nearby.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Police from Titawi station reached the accident spot soon after receiving information. The bus driver, identified as Surendra Kumar from Kazi Kheda village, reportedly fled the scene after the collision but was later arrested by police.

Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar stated that a case has been registered under IPC Section 304A for causing death due to negligence. The bus has been seized and further investigation is underway.

Police officials also pointed out that the motorcycle was carrying four people and none of them were wearing helmets. According to preliminary findings, overspeeding by the bus and the slippery road after recent rainfall may have contributed to the accident.

Family Background

Mahipal Kashyap was known in the village for running a small home-based medical practice and supporting his family through it. His wife Poonam is a homemaker. The couple’s children studied at Golden Bells Academy in Bindawali village. Their elder son Shivin, a Class 7 student, was not present at the time of the accident.

The sudden loss has left the entire village in mourning, as neighbours and relatives gathered to console the grieving family.

Government Response

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep sorrow over the accident and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family. The district administration has been directed to provide ₹5 lakh as financial assistance and ensure proper medical treatment for the injured.

Authorities have also ordered a detailed inquiry into the incident, including checking the bus’s fitness certificate, driver’s licence, and speed compliance.

Growing Concern Over Road Safety

Road accidents remain a serious concern in rural areas of Uttar Pradesh, particularly on narrow link roads where traffic management is weak. According to official data, hundreds of accidents occur in districts like Muzaffarnagar every year, with motorcycles being involved in a large number of cases.

Experts continue to stress the importance of wearing helmets and avoiding overloading on two-wheelers. Police have announced that special awareness and enforcement drives will now be intensified across the district.

Village in Mourning

The bodies of Mahipal and the two children were handed over to the family after post-mortem, and their last rites were performed on Thursday amid a heavy atmosphere of grief.

Residents of the village say the laughter of the children has been silenced forever. Many are now demanding stricter monitoring of school buses, better road safety measures, and proper speed control on rural roads to prevent such tragedies in the future.
