Incident Reported in Nalanda District
A disturbing incident reported from Nalanda district has triggered widespread anger after a married woman was allegedly assaulted and humiliated on a public road.
According to police officials, the incident took place on March 26, 2026, between 6 pm and 7 pm on the Ajaypur–Noorsarai main road. The woman, around 20 years old, was returning home from a nearby shop when three young men allegedly stopped her on the road.
The accused have been identified as Ashok Yadav, Matlu Mehta alias Navneet Kumar, and Ravikant Kumar, all residents of the same area.
Police said the men initially started harassing the woman verbally. The situation then escalated when they allegedly dragged her onto the road and assaulted her. During the incident, one of the accused reportedly recorded the act on a mobile phone, and the clip was later circulated on social media.
The victim’s cries for help reportedly alerted nearby villagers, who rushed to the spot. Seeing people gathering, the accused fled the scene.
FIR Registered and Legal Action Initiated
The woman later filed a complaint at Noorsarai Police Station, where police registered case number 194/2026.
Authorities booked the accused under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including provisions related to outraging a woman’s modesty, sexual harassment, assault, criminal intimidation and group crime. Sections under the Information Technology Act were also added for allegedly sharing the video online.
Police said the victim’s statement has been officially recorded and she has undergone medical examination.
Two Arrested, Third Accused on the Run
Nalanda police formed a special team soon after the complaint was filed.
Within two days, officers arrested Ashok Yadav (22) and Matlu Mehta (25). Both accused were produced before a local court and sent to 14-day judicial custody.
The third accused, Ravikant Kumar (23), is currently absconding. Police teams have been conducting raids at different locations in Nalanda and nearby areas to locate him.
A senior police officer involved in the investigation said authorities are also working with cyber teams to trace the origin of the video and ensure that it is removed from social media platforms.
Victim Currently With Family
Following the incident, the woman has been staying with relatives. Officials said she is receiving medical attention and counseling support.
Family members said the incident has caused severe emotional distress. They have demanded strict punishment for those responsible.
Public Reaction and Political Response
The case has sparked intense discussion on social media and among local residents.
Political leaders and activists have also reacted strongly. Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav criticized the law-and-order situation in the state and demanded swift justice for the victim.
Women’s rights groups in Bihar have called for faster investigation and stronger safeguards for women in rural areas.
Police Assure Strict Action
Officials from Nalanda district police have assured that the investigation is progressing quickly.
They stated that all available evidence, including digital records, is being examined and the remaining accused will be arrested soon.
Authorities have also appealed to the public not to circulate the video, saying that sharing such content further harms the victim and could attract legal action.
Larger Concern Over Women’s Safety
The incident has again raised concerns about women’s safety in rural areas, where crimes often go unreported due to fear and social pressure.
Experts say stronger community awareness, faster police response and responsible social media behavior are essential to prevent such incidents and protect victims.
For now, police say their priority is to arrest the third accused and ensure the victim receives justice while maintaining law and order in the area.
