In a strong statement issued on Tuesday, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said it is closely monitoring developments in Nepal and urged Indian nationals in the neighbouring country to exercise caution. “The death of so many young lives saddens us terribly. The families of the departed are in our prayers and thoughts. We also wish a speedy recovery for those injured,” the statement read.

India underscored the special relationship it shares with Nepal as a close friend and neighbour. All parties were strongly advised by the MEA to exercise restraint and settle disputes amicably. Indian nationals were asked to rigorously follow the curfew regulations and recommendations issued by Nepali authorities due to the delicate nature of the situation.
The protests erupted after Nepal’s government banned 26 social media platforms, including Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and YouTube, citing non-compliance with new registration rules. This ban sparked massive youth-led demonstrations across the capital Kathmandu and other cities. Protesters, primarily from Generation Z, called for the quick repeal of the ban and rallied against corruption.
The demonstrations escalated quickly, with tens of thousands gathering near the federal parliament building, leading to violent confrontations with law enforcement. Police used tear gas, water cannons, rubber bullets, and live ammunition to disperse crowds, contributing to the tragic loss of life.

काठमांडू: नेपाल में चल रहे हिंसक प्रदर्शन को लेकर भारत ने गहरा चिंता व्यक्त करते हुए पड़ोसी हिमालयी देश में भारतीय नागरिकों को सजग रहने की अपील की है। नेपाल सरकार द्वारा सोशल मीडिया प्लेटफॉर्म्स पर लगाए गए प्रतिबंध के बाद हुए विरोध प्रदर्शन में कम से कम 19 लोगों की मौत और सैकड़ों के घायल होने की सूचना मिली है। उग्र कहर के बीच नेपाल ने मंगलवार को यह प्रतिबंध हटा दिया, लेकिन काठमांडू सहित कई प्रमुख शहरों में कर्फ्यू लागू कर सुरक्षा व्यवस्था सख्त कर दी गई है।
भारतीय विदेश मंत्रालय ने मंगलवार को जारी किए गए बयान में कहा है कि भारत नेपाल में घटनाक्रम पर लगातार नजर रख रहा है और भारतीय नागरिकों से स्थानीय प्रशासन की दी गई निर्देशों का कड़ाई से पालन करने का आग्रह करता है। “हम युवाओं के इस बड़े नुकसान से बेहद दुखी हैं। मृतकों के परिवारों के प्रति हम अपनी संवेदनाएं प्रकट करते हैं और घायल हुए लोगों को शीघ्र स्वस्थ होने की कामना करते हैं,” बयान में कहा गया।

मुख्य रूप से ‘जनरेशन Z’ के युवाओं द्वारा संचालित यह आंदोलन राजधानी काठमांडू समेत कई शहरों में फैल गया। प्रदर्शनकारियों ने भ्रष्टाचार के खिलाफ मुखर होकर तत्काल प्रतिबंध हटाने की मांग की।
विरोध के दौरान काठमांडू में वेब संसद भवन के पास हजारों लोग जमा हुए और पुलिस के साथ झड़पें हुईं। पुलिस ने भीड़ को तितर-बितर करने के लिए आंसू गैस, जल तोप, रबर के गोले और गोलियां चलाईं, जिससे कई लोगों की जान चली गई।
