Former Pakistan cricket captain Shoaib Malik has strongly criticized the Indian cricket team’s decision to not accept the Asia Cup trophy after defeating Pakistan in the 2025 final. India refused to accept the trophy from Asia Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman and Pakistan’s Interior Minister. Naqvi reportedly took the trophy with him after India declined the presentation.
Malik expressed that the Indian players worked extremely hard under immense pressure to win the tournament and the trophy was their rightful reward. He questioned why the Indian team would refuse to accept the trophy after such a significant victory. “It was such a big achievement after a very close match, and that moment is massive,” said Malik.
He warned that although the Indian team might celebrate the victory now, years down the line this decision will haunt them. “They will think: ‘We won the trophy, we worked hard.’ Athletes’ job is to give their best on the field, and that’s it,” he added.
The controversy stemmed from Mohsin Naqvi posting provocative images on social media which increased tensions between India and Pakistan during the tournament. Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav stated that his team considers their teammates as the real trophies and this moment will always be memorable for them.
Malik’s comments have reignited the debate among fans and experts, with discussions over sportsmanship and politics affecting cricket diplomacy.

पूर्व पाकिस्तान क्रिकेट कप्तान शोएब मलिक ने भारत के उस फैसले की कड़ी आलोचना की है जिसमें टीम ने एशिया कप 2025 में पाकिस्तान को हराकर ट्रॉफी लेने से इनकार कर दिया। भारत ने एशियन क्रिकेट काउंसिल के अध्यक्ष मोहसिन नक़वी से ट्रॉफी स्वीकार करने से इनकार कर दिया था, जो पाकिस्तान क्रिकेट बोर्ड के अध्यक्ष और पाकिस्तानी गृह मंत्री भी हैं।
मलिक ने कहा कि भारतीय खिलाड़ियों ने इस टूर्नामेंट को जीतने के लिए कितना मेहनत किया, उन्हें कितनी मानसिकता के साथ खेलना पड़ा। उन्होंने सवाल किया कि इतनी मेहनत के बाद जब खिलाड़ी जीत हासिल कर रहे हों, तो ट्रॉफी लेने से क्यों इनकार कर दिया गया।
उन्होंने आगे कहा कि यह बड़ा ऐतिहासिक क्षण था और भविष्य में यह भारतीय खिलाड़ियों को परेशान करेगा। “शायद अब वे कहेंगे कि हमने टूर्नामेंट जीत लिया, हमने मेहनत की, लेकिन ट्रॉफी नहीं मिली। खिलाड़ी और खेलाडी यही करते हैं कि मैदान पर अपना सर्वश्रेष्ठ देते हैं और बस इतना ही।”
इस पूरे विवाद का कारण मोहसिन नक़वी द्वारा सोशल मीडिया पर ऐसे विवादित चित्रों को साझा करना था, जिन्होंने भारत-पाकिस्तान के बीच तनाव को बढ़ावा दिया। भारतीय कप्तान सुर्यकुमार यादव ने भी कहा कि वे अपनी टीम को ही असली ट्रॉफी मानते हैं और यह अनुभव उनके लिए स्मृति बना रहेगा।
मलिक की बातों ने विवाद को नई दिशा दी है और दर्शकों में इस मुद्दे पर बहस छिड़ गई है।
