What Happened in Detail

There were two sad car accidents in Uttarakhand on April 22 and 23, 2026. The first one happened in the Tehri Garhwal district. A Max utility vehicle with 10 people on board lost control on the Chamba-Koti Colony road near Nail village. At 2:30 PM on Thursday, it broke through the cement barrier and fell 300 meters into a gorge. Eight people died right there. Uttam, 30, and Ankit, 22, were hurt badly. They went to the Tehri hospital for help.

The people lived in villages in the Ghansali area, like Chakreda and Thyoldhar. They came back from Haridwar after Sampat Lal’s (65) last rites. Asha Lal (40), Vijay Lal (36), Prem Lal (60), Mahavir (60), Shiv Singh (35, driver), Sehat Lal (65), Laxman (33), and one more were hurt. The police and the SDRF quickly rescued people in the hard hills.

There was a second accident in the Rudraprayag district. A car (UK 13 TA 1991) from Bhiri to Auring fell 250 meters into a gorge on the Bhiri-Kakola motor road on Wednesday night. Naveen Singh (30, Auring), Amit Singh (35), and Anshul (28, Sursal village) all died on the spot. After 12 hours, the news came. The SDRF team from Agastyamuni, led by SI Dharmendra Pawar, did a rescue in a dark and hard place.

Total 11 dead and 2 injured. This is just one day in the Garhwal hills.

Why and How Did This Happen

The roads on the hills in Uttarakhand are very dangerous. They are narrow and have sharp turns and steep drops. People drive fast. In the first crash, the driver lost control, possibly because they were tired or the road was bad. There were a lot of people in the car, which could have been too much. The cement barriers were weak, so they fell straight down.

The second crash was the same: they lost control on the way to the village. It was worse because it was dark and there was no news. Experts say that 70% of hill accidents are caused by speeding, not wearing seat belts, and driving bad cars. The weather was fine, but people made mistakes. No reports of alcohol yet.

Hard to rescue—need ropes and lights for deep gorges. Good job by SDRF, but more teams are needed.|The Story also covered by Times of India

What People and Leaders Said

“We rushed to help,” said Tehri DM Nitika Khandelwal. People from nearby villages were hurt. “Going over all the details.” CM Pushkar Singh Dhami was sad and told people to take good care of the injured. PM Modi said that each family would get 2 lakh rupees.

Family members of the victims cried, “We just buried them, and now more people are dead.” Fix the roads. People who live there said, “These roads kill every day.” The government needs to do something. “One rescuer said, “It was dark and steep. We carefully pulled the bodies.

Past Info:

Every year, Uttarakhand loses more than 1,500 people to car accidents. Gorges kill the most people. Champawat had 14 people die in a wedding party crash in 2022. There are black spots on Chamba road that are known about, but there is no full fix. More tourists, more cars, and more risk.

This picture shows rescue workers helping people who were hurt in a crash get out of a gorge. Ready for the ambulance.

Why This Is a Big Deal

11 gone in one go hurts villages. Ghansali is a small place; many families are broken. Economy hit—workers, farmers dead. Tourists are scared for the Char Dham Yatra soon. Shows poor roads kill poor people. Need change or more deaths.

Kids without dads, wives alone. Whole area in shock. One village lit 4 pyres on the same day.

Final Words

Two simple trips ended in horror. 11 lives lost to bad roads and speed. Families cry, villages empty. Time for real change—strong roads, alert drivers. Stay safe on hills. This warns all.
